Women’s Basketball Surges Past Nichols, 84-68; Laugeni Sets Single-Game Program Scoring Record

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott junior forward Tara Laugeni (Woodbridge, Conn.) scored a program record 37 points to lead the Gulls past Nichols, 84-68, on Wednesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Laugeni compiled all 37 of her points without attempting a three-pointer going 17-for-27 from the floor and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. She also added 16 rebounds (12 defensive), four assists, two blocks, and one steal to her stat line in 32 minutes.

The Gulls also received major contributions from Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.), Libby Fleming (Bangor, Maine), and Olivia Duncan (Essex Junction, Vt.) in the victory.

Dempsey produced her team-leading seventh double-double (26-14) of the season, while Fleming and Duncan chipped in with 11-7-4 and 6-7-5 (P-R-A), respectively.

Trailing 68-65 with 6:01 to play, Endicott scored 19 unanswered points to Nichols home with the loss.

Laugeni fueled the run with eight points, while Dempsey had six to highlight a total of five scorers during the offensive outburst.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Emily Pratt '20 (Gardner, Mass.) held the previous scoring record with 33 points against Curry on November 28, 2018.
  • Tonight's game is the second contest Laugeni has scored 30 or more points without attempting a three.
  • She is only second student-athlete in program history to accomplish the feat (Hannah Shaw '18, 31 points, 2/11/15).
  • Laugeni notched her fourth career double-double.
  • Endicott is 30-5 all-time against Nichols.
  • The Gulls have won 13 in a row versus the Bison.
  • Endicott led for 35:50 in the matchup.

Endicott (6-6, 3-2 CCC) travels to Suffolk on Saturday at 1 PM. Nichols (6-8, 2-5 CCC) hosts Gordon on Saturday at 1 PM.
