BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's volleyball team took its first playoff step in defense of its The Commonwealth Coast Conference title, as the Gulls made short work of Regis College, 3-0, on Tuesday night in a TCCC Quarterfinal match in Beverly, Mass. The Blue and Green will host either \#4 Roger Williams or \#5 Gordon College on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
Endicott blew through the first set, downing the Pride, 25-8. Ally Murphy (Gilford, N.H.) led the Gulls on a 6-0 service run, turning a 13-3 score into a 19-3 lead. Regis hung around in the second set, battling the Gulls to 10-10 midway through. Endicott, however, went on an eight point run to end the set, taking the second frame, 25-14. The third set was simply a formality, as Endicott posted a 25-10 win to take the match.
The Gulls were led by Steph Wiese's (Higganum, Conn.) nine kills, three aces and five digs. Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) and Hayley Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) each had five kills in the win. Senior Casey Ward (Monroe, Conn.) dished out 15 assists and notched nine digs, while Ally Murphy had 11 digs and seven assists.
Regis got three kills from Ashley Paolini (Epping, N.H.) and a pair of kills from both Domingas Gomes (Brockton, Mass.) and Lauren Ross (Dracut, Mass.). Tori Dunham (Plymouth, Mass.) had 11 digs and Randi Garrity (Reading, Mass.) dished out five assists.
Endicott will return to action on Thursday when it hosts either the fourth-seeded Roger Williams University Hawks or the fifth-seeded Gordon College Fighting Scots. Regardless, match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
