Endicott drops two on second day of Wash U invitational

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Endicott College fell in straight-sets to Illinois Wesleyan and dropped a five-set marathon to Baldwin-Wallace on day two of the Washington University Invitational Tournament held on the Wash U campus in St. Louis, Missouri. Endicott finishes the tournament with an 0-4 record despite competitive play throughout the weekend.

The Gulls opened the second day with a 25-14, 25-20 and 25-21 setback to Illinois Wesleyan. Steph Wiese (Higganum, Conn.) led the EC charge with seven kills, five digs and an assisted block, while Brittany Phillips (Sudbury, Mass.) had seven kills, 13 digs and a solo block in the losing effort. Hayley Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) had six kills, three digs and four assisted blocks for the Gulls. The win improved Illinois Wesleyan to 18-5 on the year.

In the afternoon contest Endicott fell in five sets to Baldwin-Wallace, 25-18, 13-25, 13-25, 25-14, and 15-9. Wiese continued her strong weekend with 13 kills and 17 digs, while Phillips also posted 13 kills and five digs for the Blue and Green. Brittany Nolan (Monroe, Conn.) notched 25 digs and Casey Ward (Monroe, Conn.) had 32 assists. Freshman Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) also chipped in with four kills and three blocks.

The four losses drop Endicott to 15-11 overall. The Gulls return home to face Anna Maria College on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Beverly, Mass.
