Endicott loses to Wesleyan, rallies past Colby

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Endicott College suffered a tough, 3-2, setback to Wesleyan University, but then rallied to down Colby College in five sets to close out the MIT Invitational Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Cambridge, Mass. The Gulls are now 11-4 on the year.

Endicott put up a strong fight in its first-ever meeting with a talented Wesleyan team, falling to the Cardinals, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 25-27, and 15-6. Endicott's Steph Wiese (Higganum, Conn.) had 15 kills and 12 digs against Wesleyan, while Brittany Phillips (Sudbury, Mass.) had 11 kills and nine digs. Hayley Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) posted eight kills, while Casey Ward (Monroe, Conn.) handed out 36 assists and 11 digs. Brittany Nolan (Monroe, Conn.) led the Blue and Green with 20 digs and a perfect 1.000 serve receive (25 opportunities, 0 errors).

The Gulls were quick to rebound in their afternoon match, as Endicott rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Colby College, 3-2. After falling 24-26 in the first set and 22-25 in the second, the Gulls fired off scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 15-12 to earn the win. Wiese had a dominant 20 kills and 14 digs while Phillips and Janelle each had 11 kills. Phillips also had 18 digs while Nolan posted 29 in the winning effort. Casey Ward had 49 assists and 10 digs for the Gulls.

Endicott returns to action on Wednesday, October 1st as the Gulls take on Roger Williams University in an important TCCC contest. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Bristol, R.I.
