BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College Gulls were able to win their first two conference matches of the season by beating both Regis (4-7, 1-1 TCCC) and Eastern Nazarene (3-3, 0-2 TCCC) on Saturday. The wins moved the Gulls to 7-1 (2-0 TCCC) on the season behind strong play from junior Steph Wiese (Higganum, Conn.) and senior Hayley Janelle (Madbury, N.H.).
Endicott was able to win the first match of the day by besting the Pride of Regis College. The Gulls were able to beat Regis 3-1 with scores of 25-15, 25-21, 18-25, and 25-15. Steph Wiese and Hayley Janelle were able to collect 11 kills each as the Gulls were able to win their first conference tilt. Senior Casey Ward (Monroe, Conn.) led the Gulls with 20 assists while fellow senior Brittany Nolan (Monroe, Conn.) had 14 digs in the contest. Regis would not leave the court empty handed however as they were able to defeat Eastern Nazarene 3-1 in the middle match-up of the day, 17-25, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-18.
The Gulls then went on to face Eastern Nazarene in the final match of the day, beating the Crusaders 3-0 with scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-4. Janelle continued her assault on the courts as she added seven more kills in the contest while Casey Ward piled up another 13 assists. Sophomore Amy Grigg (Vernon, Conn.) was able to contribute with three solo blocks as well as three block assists. In the match, Endicott was able to compile a .440 team hitting percentage and committed only 4 hitting errors in the three sets.
The Blue and Green return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Boston and take on the Wentworth Leopards at 7:00 p.m. Regis College will board the bus and go to Elms College for another tri-meet on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. while Eastern Nazarene makes the journey to Emmanuel College on Tuesday for a match at 7:00 p.m.
