BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott women's volleyball team celebrated senior day with a pair of wins as the Gulls defeated Emerson and Western Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.
EC kicked off the day with a three game sweep of Emerson; the Gulls won 30-18, 30-18 and 30-18, led by senior standout Sara Moore (Guilford, CT/Guilford) who continues to add to her school record as she had 12 kills to go along with five digs. Endicott's other senior; Katelyn Smith (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the team in digs with 21.
Although the seniors were the focus of the day Hayley Janelle (Madbury, NH/Oyster River)was not to be over-looked as she had a great day picking up 15 kills, three aces and three solo blocks. Janelle would go on the set a school record of her own against Western Connecticut with five solo blocks.
Endicott closed out the day with a three game win over Western Connecticut State, 30-17, 30-7 and 30-15. The Gulls started out in a tight battle with the Colonials as the first game was back and forth until mid-match before EC was able to pull away.
Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) continued to make her case for CCC Player of the Year as she took the ball to start the second match and led the Gulls on a 12-0 run while serving. Hall racked up 16 assists, two kills, 11 digs and six aces against WCSU and had 34 assists, 2 kills, four aces and 12 digs against Emerson, once again showing that she is one of the most well rounded players in the CCC.
Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) also played well for the Gulls as she had 13 digs against West Conn. while Steph Wiese (Higganum, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) had 8 kills and 8 digs against Emerson.
The story of the day was the recognition of Moore and Smith, who are graduating as the winningest class in the program's history. During their time at Endicott they have helped the program become one that is perennially ranked in the New England Region.
Western Connecticut and Emerson also went head to head with the Colonials emerging victorious in five games. Emerson took the first and third games but WCSU battled back to force a fifth and final game which they won 15-9 for the 3-2 win. Blair Waycasy had 20 kills while Krystal Wilson added 50 assists and Chrissy Bell had 28 digs for the Colonials.
The Gulls improve to 17-9 overall and remain at 8-0 in the CCC with the pair of wins. Endicott finishes its season on the road with a number of matches left to play. EC next heads to Brunswick, ME to take on the Bowdoin College Polar Bears on Wednesday night.
