BEVERLY, MA - Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Steph Wiese (Higganum, CT) once again led the Gulls to victory with 14 kills as EC swept Plymouth State, 3-0.
The two teams were very evenly matched early on trading points for most of the first game. EC would take the lead for good however when the Gulls took a slim advantage at 24-23.
Endicott would go on to win the first game 30-25 setting the tone for the remainder of the match as they out played the Panthers and rolled to the sweep. The Gulls took the second game 30-21 and won the third in convincing fashion at 30-15.
EC also benefited from the play of Sara Moore (Guilford, CT), who since returning to the lineup as made a dramatic impact. Moore had 12 kills and two blocks in the three games. The Gulls have counted on Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA) all season long and she delivered once again with 37 assists, six kills and ten digs. Wiese also added 7 digs for the Gulls.
Endicott also got strong performances from Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT) and Casey Ward (Monroe, CT). The duo played solid defense and proved to be very effective serving. Nolan led the Gulls with 19 digs, while Ward led EC on a number of four and five point runs while serving, giving Endicott separation from PSU that would eventually lead to wins in the first two games.
Kaitlyn Collins (Mahwah, NJ) led the Panthers with seven kills in 14 attempts, while Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, CT) added 20 assists in the loss.
With the win the Gulls improve to 5-7 overall (2-0 CCC) and have won three straight matches. Plymouth State falls to 5-3 (0-2 LEC) they will head home and get set for a Little East Conference round robin set of matches on Saturday. Endicott will face defending CCC champions Colby-Sawyer as well as conference rivals Salve Regina on Saturday when they head to New London, NH.
