COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Endicott College dropped two matches to Gustavus Adolphus 3-0 and 3-1 Saturday in the Pikes Peak Challenge in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The Gulls lost the first match 30-14, 30-23 and 30-12 despite getting six kills and three blocks from Steph Wiese (Higganum, CT). Meghan Hall (Santa Cruz, CA/Aptos) handed out 21 assists and dug up 10 balls in the loss while Beth Dow (Pocasset, MA/Bourne) added six kills and Brittany Nolan (Monroe, CT/Masuk) had 10 digs.
Gustavus Adolphus won the second match by the scores of 19-30, 30-16, 17-30 and 30-22. Kim Marschner (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) led EC with 12 kills followed by Hayley Janelle's (Madbury, NH/Oyster River) nine kills and four blocks. Hall had 31 assists and two aces while Nolan dug up 11 balls.
Although it was not the start Endicott had hoped for, the Gulls did have some positives to take back east. Janelle was named to the All-Tournament Team while Dow filled in admirably in the middle of the court and the team showed steady improvement.
"We showed a lot of character fighting hard all day when it would have been easy to pack it in," said head coach Tim Byram. "We improved every game and learned from this experience."
