Kate Cioffi earns two TCCC weekly awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Endicott College freshman Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) took home TCCC Player and Rookie of the Week this week as announced by TCCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye on Monday. This marks the second time the freshman has been named Player of the Week and sixth time this season she has been named Rookie of the Week. Cioffi was an integral part of the women's tennis team that won its first TCCC Championship on Saturday.

The First-Team All-TCCC selection Cioffi was able to go unbeaten in the final two rounds of the TCCC Playoffs this past week. The freshman was able to win her singles and doubles matches in the semifinals as she earned two points for the Gulls in a 7-2 victory over Western New England College. In the championship match against Colby-Sawyer, Cioffi teamed with partner Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) to win their number two doubles match by a score of 8-5. She then proceeded to win her number one singles match against the Chargers' Mary Francis in straight sets with matching scores of 6-2, 6-2.

The women's tennis team was able to win its first ever TCCC Championship after five previous trips to the finals. The team defeated Gordon College, Western New England, and Colby-Sawyer on their way to the championship. The Gulls wrapped up their season at 16-1 overall and handing Colby-Sawyer its first loss of the year to leave their record at 17-1.
