SALEM, Mass. - The Endicott College Gulls were able to defeat the Salem State Vikings, 8-1, in non-conference action on Thursday. The win moves Endicott to a perfect 3-0 record, 1-0 in the TCCC, while Salem State falls in its season opener.
Junior Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.) was impressive as she was able to win in \#2 singles 6-0, 6-2 over Salem State sophomore Alicia Poore (Stoneham, Mass.). Breting then teamed with fellow junior Lori Wadner (Wrentham, Mass.) to win in \#2 doubles over junior Megan Cote (Fall River, Mass.) and Alicia Poore 9-8 by winning a tie-break 10-8.
In singles play, current TCCC Rookie of the Week Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) faced her first setback of the season as she fell to Megan Cote 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). The win allowed Cote to improve her career record to 28-1 and was the only point the Vikings were able to muster against the Gulls. Lori Wardner, Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.), Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.), and Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) were all able to win their singles matches with relative ease.
In doubles, Kate Cioffi was able to gain a little revenge as she teamed with partner Alyson Boehm for an easy 8-1 win. Endicott's other duo of Kate Fiske and Jenna Carme were also able to win their match by the same score of 8-1.
The Blue and Green return to the courts on Friday as they continue their four match in four days schedule against Regis College at 3:30 p.m. Salem State looks for its first win when it hosts Rhode Island College this Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
