BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's tennis team improved to 13-1 on Saturday afternoon, downing Nichols College, 8-1, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match in Beverly, Massachusetts. The Gulls improve to 9-1 in TCCC play while Nichols slips to 10-5 overall (6-4 TCCC). Endicott now looks ahead to the playoffs as it wrapped up its regular season with a victory over the visiting Bison.
In doubles play, the Gulls were able to take all three of the matches on the day. Endicott's top doubles team of Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) were able to beat Jessica Porter (Melrose, Mass.) and Chelsey Miller (Salem, Conn.) by a score of 9-7. The rest of the doubles matches followed suit as current TCCC Player and Rookie of the Week Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) teamed with Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) to beat the Nichols duo of Molly McGuire (East Sandwich, Mass.) and Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia), 8-2. The senior tandem of Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.) and Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) finished off the Bison as they were able to beat Kelsey Urbanetti (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Deirdre Watkins (Hubbardston, Mass.) by a score of 8-3.
The Gulls were able to pick up where they left off after doubles play as Kate Cioffi bested Jess Porter in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in number one singles. Nicole Breting and Lori Wardner were also able to win their matches as they defeated Molly McGuire and Chelsey Miller in numbers two and three singles respectively. Nichols' Maria Balabanova was able to secure the only point for Nichols as she beat Alyson Boehm by a score of 6-2, 7-5. In the last two singles matches, Endicott's Kate Fiske beat Kelsey Urbanetti 6-3, 6-2, and Jenna Carme defeated Deirdre Watkins by a score of 6-0, 6-3 for the Gulls.
The Blue and Green now look forward to the TCCC Playoffs where they have clinched the \#2 seed and will host Gordon College on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.. Nichols has also made it into the TCCC tournament and will host Roger Williams at the same time in Dudley.
