GORHAM, Maine - Freshman Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) cruised to a dominating victory at number one singles to lead the Endicott College Gulls to a 9-0 sweep of the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's tennis match Thursday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex in Gorham, Maine.
With the win the Gulls remain undefeated in 10 matches (10-0, 6-0 TCCC) earning their fifth 9-0 victory of the season. The loss is the seventh straight for USM to fall to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the Little East Conference.
Cioffi defeated USM junior Erica Robertson (St. Albans, Vt.) 6-1, 6-1 to lead the Gulls to a sweep of all six singles points. Junior Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) also earned a convincing win, downing USM junior Melissa Ford (Camden, Maine) 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, the Gulls earned all three of the available points. Cioffi teamed with junior Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) to earn an 8-2 win at first double as they defeated Robertson and Ford to lead Endicott.
The Blue and Green return to action on Friday when they host Wentworth in a makeup of a rain-postponed match from earlier in the week at 3:30 p.m. Southern Maine will host Western Connecticut State University in LEC action on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
