Endicott moves on to TCCC Championships

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's tennis team will move onto the TCCC Championships after defeating Western New England College 7-2 in the TCCC Semifinals held on Thursday. The Gulls will move onto the conference finals for the second consecutive year and face Colby-Sawyer in the championship match.

In doubles, the First-Team All-TCCC team of Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) were able to win a hard fought battle against Kristen Ayers (Acton, Mass.) and Nicole DeSimone (Feeding Hills, Mass.) by a score of 9-7. Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) followed suit as they won their doubles match 8-4 by defeating Nicole Freed (Jersey Shore, Pa.) and Jess Haffner (Suffield, Conn.). WNEC was able to pick up one of its two points on the day as Ashley Czelatka (Southampton, N.Y.) and Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, Conn.) combined to beat the Endicott senior duo of Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.) and Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.), 9-7.

Endicott was able to clinch the victory as they won five of the six singles matches on the day. First-Team All-Conference selection Kate Cioffi won her number one singles match against Kristen Ayers 6-1, 6-2. Nicole Breting was able to win her match against WNEC's DeSimone 6-2, 6-0 and Lori Wardner beat Nicole Freed 6-2, 6-1. Junior Alyson Boehm came back from losing the first set of her match against Jess Haffner 0-6 to rebound and win the second set 7-5 and the tie break 10-5. WNEC would earn its lone singles point as Kelly Murnane defeated Kate Fiske 6-0, 6-2. Jenna Carme was also a winner by a score of 6-2, 6-1 against Christina Czelatka.

The Blue and Green will travel to New London, N.H. on Saturday for the TCCC Championship match against Colby-Sawyer. The conference champion will be decided in a match slated to start at 12:00 p.m.
