Women's tennis wins TCCC Championship

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Endicott College women's tennis team was able to win their first TCCC Championship in the program's history by defeating Colby-Sawyer 5-2 on Saturday. The Gulls wrap up their season at 16-1 overall while the Chargers suffered their first loss of the season in the championship game to drop to 17-1.

In doubles, Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) suffered a defeat to Colby-Sawyer's Jen LaChance (Killingworth, Conn.) and Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) by a score of 8-1. Endicott was able to bounce back and win the other two doubles matches as Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) defeated Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine) and Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.) 8-5. Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.) and Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) won their match 8-3 against Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) and Carolyn Drake (Great River, N.Y.).

Cioffi was able to carry over her performance in doubles to her number one singles match as she defeated Mary Francis 6-2, 6-2. Nicole Breting suffered her second setback of the day as she lost her singles match 6-2, 7-5 to Jen LaChance. Lori Wardner and Alyson Boehm would win their matches both in straight sets to as the Gulls took three of four singles matches for the 5-2 match victory.

The TCCC Championship marks Endicott's first in women's tennis in the program's history. The Gulls had been a finalist five previous times but this was their first victory in the championship game. The Gulls will now take begin to prepare for the NCAA Tournament to be held in the spring semester.
