BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College Gulls continued their hot start to the season as they defeated Curry College 9-0 in conference play on Saturday. The win keeps the Gulls perfect at 5-0 (3-0 TCCC) while Curry drops to 0-3 (0-1 TCCC).
The match Saturday wrapped up a grueling stretch for the women's tennis team as they had to play four matches in four days after some postponements due to weather. The brutal schedule had no effect on the Gulls today as they were able to sweep all of the matches for their third conference win of the season.
In doubles, juniors Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.) and teammate Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) were able to take down Curry's top pair of Kaitlin Ross (East Freetown, Mass.) and Rachel Axelrod (Merion Station, Pa.), 8-1. Current TCCC Rookie of the Week Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) paired with junior Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) for a win in \#2 doubles, shutting out Curry's Lauren Maloney (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Kathleen Rush (Waterbury, Conn.), 8-0. The last doubles match was won by senior teammates Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.) and Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) over Eliza Jones (Pomfret, Conn.) and Francesca Panebianco (Huntington, N.Y.), 8-1.
Endicott continued its strong play as the competition moved to singles matchups. Kate Cioffi was a winner in \#1 singles over Kaitlin Ross 6-2, 6-0 while Nicole Breting bested Rachel Axelrod by the same score in \#2 singles. Lori Wadner, Alyson Boehm, and Christine Lavin were all able to win their matches while Kate Fiske was able to win hers without dropping a game 6-0, 6-0.
The Blue and Green return to the courts on Wednesday when they travel to Quincy, Mass. to take on the Eastern Nazarene Crusaders Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Curry boards the bus and travels to take on Johnson and Wales on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. to make up a rained out match from September 9th.
