NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Endicott College Gulls lost a matchup of unbeaten teams against the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers 5-4 on Tuesday in TCCC action. The loss drops the Gulls to 12-1 (8-1 TCCC) while the Chargers improve to a perfect 13-0 (10-0 TCCC).
Colby-Sawyer jumped out quickly on the Gulls by sweeping all of the doubles matches to start the meet. Colby-Sawyer's Jen LaChance (Killingworth, Conn.) and Hannah White (Stockbridge, Mass.) were able to beat Nicole Breting (Johnston, R.I.) and Lori Wardner (Wrentham, Mass.) by a score of 8-1. Current TCCC Player and Rookie of the Week Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and partner Alyson Boehm (Lowell, Mass.) suffered the same fate as they lost their match 8-4 against Brittany Mailman (Freedom, N.H.) and Mary Francis (North Steuben, Maine). Finally, in the closest of the doubles matches, Jenna Carme (Greenfield, Mass.) and Kate Fiske (Westerly, R.I.) lost to Carolyn Drake (Great River, N.Y.) and Lauren Turenne (Reading, Mass.) by a score of 8-6.
In singles play, Kate Cioffi rebounded from her doubles loss to defeat Mary Francis in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. However, Nicole Breting lost in her match against Jen LaChance 6-0, 6-1 and Alyson Boehm was defeated in a tough matchup by Lauren Turenne by a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 that would allow Colby-Sawyer to take home the match victory, 5-4. Lori Wardner, Kate Fiske, and Jenna Carme would all win their singles matches but the Chargers were too much for the previously undefeated Gulls.
The Blue and Green look to rebound from their first loss of the season when they host Nichols College in the final tune-up before the playoffs. The TCCC matchup will take place at 12:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer looks to stay unbeaten when it travels to the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday for a match at 4:00 p.m.
