BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College softball team won both games of their doubleheader versus Anna Maria College, which was held on Wednesday at Endicott Softball Field in Beverly, Mass. The Gulls won the first game by a score of 3-1 before taking the second game 8-2.

Anna Maria jumped out on top early in game one, receiving a first inning solo home run from junior Lauren Hachey (Grafton, Mass.).

The Gulls came right back in the bottom half of the inning, as senior Danielle Sargent (Sabattus, Maine) sparked a two-out rally with a base hit to center field. After Sargent stole second, senior Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, Conn.) ripped a single through the left side to tie the game at one-all.

The Gulls were able to manufacture a run in the third to grab a 2-1 lead. It started when senior Paula McGinn (Lynn, Mass.) tripled down the left field line with one out. McGinn then came home on a nicely executed squeeze bunt from shortstop Jenna Lazar (Milton, Mass.).

Endicott tacked on another run in the fourth on a solo shot from junior Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, Mass.), and would go on to win the first game 3-1.

Freshman Holly Renna (Charlton, Mass.) took the tough luck loss for the AMcats. Renna drops to 1-10 on the season despite holding the Gulls to just three runs on seven hits while striking out eight.

Endicott starter Jackie Collier (Swampscott, Mass.) improved to 4-0 with the win. She struck out nine batters while giving up one run on just three hits. Offensively, Paula McGinn and Rachel Pearson both collected two hits a piece, while Meghan Sargent added a home run and a walk in the win. The Gulls took control early in game two, as the first three hitters all reached base safely. Endicott would lead 2-0 after one, scoring on an RBI single from Danielle Sargent and a sacrifice fly from Meghan Sargent.

After a third inning RBI single by the AMcats Lauren Hachey had cut the lead in half at 2-1, the Gulls' bats came alive. Endicott scored six runs over the next three innings, including three in the fourth, to take the second game by a score of 8-2.

Anna Maria pitcher Lauren Hachey got the loss for the AMcats, falling to 3-6 overall. She surrendered eight runs, six of which were earned, on eleven hits over six innings of work. Hachey was impressive at the plate going 3-3 with an RBI. Freshman Alyssa Boykin also had a good game with the bat, going 2-4 including a monster home run off the scoreboard in left.

Freshman Jenna Bortolotti (Milton, Mass.) earned the win for the Gulls by allowing just one earned run over seven innings. Bortolotti is now a perfect 2-0 on the season. Endicott was led offensively by Meghan Sargent who was 3-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Left fielder Danielle Sargent also chipped in going 2-2 with a double, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored in the win.

With the sweep Endicott is now 18-3 overall, and 10-2 in the TCCC. Anna Maria drops to 5-18 on the season, with a 3-11 record in the TCCC.
