Game 1 Box Score - Game 2 Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Endicott College softball team split a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader against the University of New England on Sunday afternoon at Claude Dubois Field in Biddeford, Maine. The Gulls bounced back from a 1-0 loss in the first game to prevail in game two by the score of 7-3.

UNE plated the lone run of the opener in the bottom of the fourth. Lauren Webb (Jericho, Vt.) led the inning off with a single to center field. After a strikeout, Katie Morin (Lewiston, Maine) stroked a single to right, moving Webb to second. Caroline Engwer (Wrentham, Mass.) then followed with a base hit to center to score Webb.

Sarah Hamel (Rochester, N.H.) scattered six hits while tossing a complete game shutout, raising her record to 4-3 on the season. She walked none and struck out five. Offensively, Lisa Baillargeon (Berlin, N.H.) had a pair of doubles.

Senior Jenn Elwell (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the tough luck loser for Endicott, surrendering just one run on seven hits over six innings of work. Elwell drops to 4-3 on the season.

Trailing 3-1 after three innings of game two, Endicott responded by plating four runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore Jenna Lazar (Milton, Mass.) had a two-run single to tie the score, then senior Rachel Pearson (Gales Ferry, Conn.) gave the Gulls the lead with a run-scoring single. Winning pitcher Maria Mangine (Lockport, N.Y.) helped her own cause with a base knock to give Endicott a two-run cushion.

The Gulls would score single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to give themselves more breathing room. Endicott won despite being out hit 11-8. The Gulls took advantage of eight walks and five Nor'easter errors.

Mangine improved her unblemished record to 6-0. She walked three and struck out four while tossing her sixth straight complete game. The Gulls were led offensively by shortstop Jenna Lazar who went 2-4 with a double, a run scored, and three RBI. Rachel Pearson also added two hits and an RBI in the win.

Lisa Baillargeon and Chelsea Cummings (Oxford, Maine) each had three hits in the nightcap for the Nor'easters. Baillargeon extended her hitting streak to 10 games, while Morin had a double to push her hit streak to seven.

UNE's win in game one was its first over Endicott since April 26, 2001--a span of 14 games. The Nor'easters (7-7, 4-4) are idle until Thursday when they host Thomas College for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m. With the split the Gulls are now 14-3 overall, and 6-2 in the TCCC. Endicott will return to action on Monday, hosting a double header versus New England College in Beverly, Mass. Game times are set for 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
