Men’s Volleyball Wraps Up Play At Fenway Classic

BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to No. 9 Hobart (3-1) and Emmanuel (3-1) on Sunday evening at the Fenway Classic.

NO. 9 HOBART 3, ENDICOTT 1 (13-25, 20-25, 25-20, 18-25)

Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) fueled the Gulls with a team-high 14 kills, 47 receptions (.979), six digs, and one block assist.

Jackson Gray (Glenmont, N.Y.) also contributed 10 kills (.444) and three block assists, both career-highs.

Ian Hoskins (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Luke Madson (Nazareth, Pa.) rounded out the attack with eight and seven kills, respectively. 

Meanwhile, Matty Tiernan (Bradford, R.I.) and Dan Battista (Bethlehem, N.Y.) split duties running the offense with 20 and 19 assists each. 

The match featured 11 ties (0-2-7-2) and five lead changes (0-1-3-1). 

In set three, Endicott broke open a 9-9 tie with kills from Iacovelli (2), Madson (1), and block assists by Iacovelli/Gray, forcing Hobart to take a timeout. 

Back-to-back service aces from Battista pushed the gap to 15-9, and the Gulls never let their lead slip lower than three points the rest of the way.

Iacovelli (6), Madson (4), and Gray (3) highlighted the offense in set three.


EMMANUEL 3, ENDICOTT 1 (18-25, 28-26, 24-26, 21-25)

Iacovelli once again paced the attack with a team-high 14 kills.

Hoskins added a career-high 11 kills on 17 swings (.471), while Corey Klass Jr. (Beverly, Mass.), Madson, and Thomas Matchett (North Smithfield, R.I.) finished with eight, seven, and six putaways. 

Battista and Tiernan ran the offense efficiently with 29 (.509) and 17 (.567) assists.

Adin Jepsky (San Jose, Calif.) also notched a match-high 11 digs to lead the Gulls' defensive efforts.

The match went back and forth despite the 3-1 final, with 39 ties (3-14-16-6) and 15 lead changes (0-8-4-3).

Set two showcased ties of 23-23, 24-24, 25-25, and 26-26 before Endicott pulled away with kills from Gray and Iacovelli.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Hobart is 10-1 on the season with wins over No. 19 Lasell (3-0) and No. 14 Misericordia (3-2).
  • Endicott played three nationally ranked opponents this season. 
  • Gray was named to the Fenway Classic All-Tournament Team.
