Gulls Down Marymount (Va.) In Five, Chapell ’08 Becomes Winningest Coach In Program History

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Endicott men's volleyball team defeated Marymount (Va.), 3-2, by scores of 25-18, 15-25, 25-22, 24-26, and 15-8 on Friday night at St. John Fisher University.

With the victory, George Chapell '08 became the winningest head coach in program history (2013—present, 215-110, .662), surpassing Tim Byram (2001-12, 214-164, .566) on the list.

Jake Laborde (Brookline, N.H.) fueled the Endicott attack with a match-high/career-high 23 kills (.321). 

Aidan Iacovelli (South Windsor, Conn.) added 17 kills, while Jackson Gray (Glenmont, N.Y.) chipped in with seven kills on seven swings.

Matty Tiernan (Bradford, R.I.) orchestrated the offense with 41 assists, and Adin Jepsky (San Jose, Calif.) guided the defensive efforts with a match-high 16 digs.

Tonight's match featured 25 ties (8-1-3-12-1) and 12 lead changes (4-0-3-4-1).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott evened the all-time series at 1-1 (first-ever meeting occurred on 4/5/14, 3-2 loss).
  • Iacovelli has produced 10 or more kills in five straight matches.
  • Laborde's 23 kills are the most by a Gull this season.
  • Thomas Matchett (North Smithfield, R.I.) compiled a career-high six solo blocks.
