Amherst Bests No. 12 Men's Ice Hockey, 4-2

BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 12 nationally ranked Endicott men's ice hockey lost to Amherst, 4-2, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

The Mammoths led 2-0 at the end of the first period thanks to two goals scored 33 seconds apart (10:36, 11:09). 

Andrew Kurapov (Corvallis, Ore.) cut the deficit in half 22 seconds into the second period. Amherst responded as they added a power-play tally at the 1:57 mark for a 3-1 lead. Cass Bowes (Sturgeon County, Alberta) fired home his sixth goal of the season as Endicott would trail 3-2 heading to the final period.

In the third, both teams had opportunities as Amherst scored an empty net goal to put away the game and secure the 4-2 victory. 

In goal, Atticus Kelly (St. Paul, Minn.) made 39 saves for the Blue and Green.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott holds the lead in the all-time series, 2-1.
  • The Gulls are now 2-2 all-time playing on New Year's Eve.
  • Kurapov has recorded a point in 11 of 13 games this season.
  • Michael Casey (Media, Pa.) led Endicott at the faceoff dot going 14-24.

No. 12 Endicott (7-3-3) hosts Connecticut College on Tuesday, January 2 at 7 PM. Amherst (6-3-0) travels to Curry College on Tuesday, January 2 at 3 PM.
