Derek Contessa ’23 M'25 Makes Pro Debut With Macon Mayhem

BEVERLY, Mass. — Former Endicott men's ice hockey student-athlete Derek Contessa '23 M'25 (Freehold, N.J.) made his professional debut with the Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) last weekend.

"Along with being a terrific power forward, Derek is an even better person and teammate," said Endicott men's ice hockey head coach R.J. Tolan. "We wish the best of luck with his professional hockey career."

Contessa made his first career appearance on Friday, October 20, and recorded the primary assist on the Mayhem's final goal in a 7-2 victory over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

Contessa finished the contest with a plus-one rating and recorded a shot in his debut.

He also made his way into the lineup on Saturday, aiding the Mayhem to a 2-1 triumph against the Bears.

Contessa was officially signed to the Mayhem roster on September 27.

The forward is the 12th student-athlete in program history to sign a professional contract, and the seventh to do so with the SPHL.

Additionally, Contessa is the second student-athlete to sign with the Mayhem, joining Carter Horwitz '19 (Tustin, Calif.) on the list who made his debut with the team following graduation.
