BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Endicott No. 12 nationally ranked men's ice hockey team defeated No. 9 University of New England (UNE) in overtime, 3-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Friday night at Harold Alfond Forum.
In the three-on-three extra session, Andrew Kurapov (Corvallis, Ore.) netted the game-winner 43 seconds into overtime courtesy of a finesse shot after the previous shot attempt was blocked.
In the final period, Kurapov lit the lamp for his first of the night via a power-play goal to give the Blue and Green a 2-1 lead with 8:15 left to play.
UNE tied the game with a scrappy power-play goal in front of the net to nod the game at 2-2 (18:49).
The Nor'Easters jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage with 8:22 remaining in the opening period. Jack Ring (Guilford, Conn.) made a gritty individual effort to create his own shot and beat the goalie to deadlock the contest at 1-1 (8:37).
In goal, Ryan Wilson (Shelton, Conn.) denied 34 shots in the thriller (1-1-0).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls improve to 5-4-1 on the road against UNE all-time.
- Kurapov and Michael Casey (Media, Pa.) led the visitors with 10 face-off wins.
- Both squads scored one goal on the power play, respectively.
- The Blue and Green controlled the face-off dot winning 35 out of the 66 face-offs.
- Kurapov produced his fifth multi-goal game in his career.
