No. 19 Vassar Tops Field Hockey, 5-2

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — The Endicott field hockey team fell to No. 19 nationally ranked Vassar, 5-2, in non-conference action on Sunday evening at Weinberg Field.

Claire Boncek (Hamden, Conn.) and Olivia Lampasona (Watertown, Mass.) both scored game-tying goals in the loss.

Boncek buried a penalty stroke in the first (13:48) to make it 1-1, while Lampasona finished a Meaghan Hogan (Cheshire, Conn.) feed in the second (28:09) to even the score at 2-2, at the time.

From there, Vassar scored a pair of goals in the third and another in the fourth to put the game away.

Brianna Anslow (Clifton Park, N.Y.) rounded out the list of individual game highlights with six saves in the setback (1-1).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's contest was concluded earlier than expected, with 5:48 remaining in the fourth, due to lightning.
  • The Gulls are 1-1 all-time against Vassar.
  • Boncek, Hogan, and Rachael Lemay (Westminster, Mass.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Endicott (1-1) hosts MIT on Tuesday, September 6 at 7 PM. No. 19 Vassar (3-0) welcomes Western Connecticut State to its campus on Wednesday, September 7 at 7 PM.
