(Beverly, MA) The Endicott-9 took two from Wentworth Institute of Technology today to move its CCC record to 14-6 and 20-18 overall. The wins assure Endicott of reaching the 20-win plateau in five out of the last six seasons. The only year in that span that they did not win 20 was 2001 when the Gulls finished 19-18.
The bats were hot today as Endicott won 8-1 with 10 hits and 12-8 with 14 hits. Both starting pitchers went the distance for the Gulls as Matt Bishop earned his third victory of the season in game one and Jamie Turner improved to 5-0 in game two.
Endicott broke open game one with a 6-run third inning. Greg Allain had a two-run double and Pete Norke followed him with a two-run homer, his third of the year. Brendan Tiani also had a run-scoring double. That's all Bishop would need as he allowed just two hits and struck out 6.
In game two, Endicott jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead after three innings. They scored two in the second and seven in third. Centerfielder, Jason Newham scored three runs and was driven in each time by catcher Mark Vaughan who finished with three RBI. Dustin Aiguier had three hits and Greg Allain, Pete Norke, and Brendan Tiani each had two. Gary Palmieri had a single to stretch his hit streak to four games. Turner allowed six hits and only one earned run while striking out eight and walking none.
The CCC double-elimination tournament starts this Tuesday and the seeds will be announced late Sunday, April 25th. Salve Regina stands alone at the top at 16-4. Depending on the outcome of the Colby-Sawyer/Nichols double-header on Sunday, there could be 4 teams tied for second at 14-6. If Nichols wins two, they will stand alone in second at 15-5. If they lose one they join Endicott, Roger Williams and Eastern Nazarene at 14-6. A three-person league-appointed committee will sort out the tie-breakers to seed the tournament.
Endicott travels to Keene State on Sunday for an 11:00 am start with the Owls in one nine-inning game.
