Endicott Drops Two to Salve Regina

April 17, 2004

Box Score

(Beverly, MA) Behind explosive first innings in each game, Salve Regina beat Endicott twice: 4-3 and 7-3.

In game one Salve sent nine men to the plate off EC starter Matt Bishop and scored three runs. The first four men reached on a walk, two bloop singles to right and hit batsman to score the first run. Jay Boss then singled sharply to left for two more RBIs.

Endicott got one back in the second when Abe Bellini reached after being hit by a pitch. Kevin Donahue singled up the middle to put runners at 1st and 2nd. Mark Vaughan made out \#2 with a hard liner to left. Pat Vincent then singled in Bellini.

Salve stretched it to 4-1 in the third and chased Bishop from the game. A lead off walked to Darryl Murtha would eventually score on a 2-out bases loaded ground ball that EC could not find the handle on. Jon Trowt came in and got the final out with a fly ball to left. Trowt blanked the Seahawks the rest of the way with an outstanding performance in relief.

EC cut it to 4-2 in the fourth when Mark Vaughan reached on a fielder's choice and went to second on a passed ball. Pat Vincent stayed hot and picked up his second RBI with line single to center. The Gulls mounted another rally in the bottom of the sixth when Donahue was hit by a pitch with one out. Salve sent Mike Lewis in to relieve starter Davin Supinski. He walked pinch hitter Pete Norke and Dustin Aiguier, who had come on to play short for Vidmosko. Dave Babiarz got a RBI by being hit by a pitch to make it 4-3 with the bases loaded and two out. SRU's Jay Boss came in to pitch from second base and got Mike Lucas to fly out.

Boss got the save by putting down the Gulls in order in the seventh.

Looking to rebound in game two, Endicott sent staff ace, Greg Allain, to the mound. Salve was ready for him however and scored four in the top of the first behind five hits and two-consecutive successful hit and run singles. Brent Sousa had a run scoring double and Kevin Linsky scored the inning's fourth run when, on a 1-3 out to first, Sousa forced him off third base. With a man hung up between 2nd and 3rd and between 3rd and home, EC played on the Sousa between 2nd and 3rd and Linsky snuck home.

That's all the Seahawk's would need as Endicott pieced together three single runs in the third, sixth and seventh. Salve tacked on insurance with two in the sixth and one in the top of the seventh.

The losses drop EC to 14-15 and 8-6 in CCC play. Its Endicott's first dip below the .500 mark since April 3, when the Gulls beat Curry to go 9-9. Salve improves to 15-11; 10-2 in CCC action.
