Box Score

(Beverly, MA) Strong pitching performances led Endicott to two victories over Gordon today: 8-3 and 3-1. Jamie Turner was dominant in game one, allowing just one hit in six innings of work; and Jon Trowt was just as tough in game two, allowing one unearned run and striking out nine.

Turner set the tone early by retiring the first eight Gordon hitters. In the meantime, EC offense got right to work putting up three runs in the first two innings. Dustin Aiguier got the scoring started with lead off single in the first and scored on Mike Lucas' looping double down the right field line. Brendan Tiani had a two out double in the second and scored on a single by Pat Vincent. Vincent then scored on his own by stealing second and then going all the way home on a pick off attempt that went into center field.

With a three run cushion, Turner remained virtually unhittable. He allowed just two base runners in the third inning and otherwise faced the minimum in all five of his other innings. Turner finished with 4 strike outs in six innings pitched and did not allow a run, upping his record to 4-0.

A five run fourth put the game away for Endicott. Dustin Aiguier had a run-scoring single and Stephen Vidmosko and Gary Palmieri each had two-run singles. Derek Gartner came on for Turner in the seventh. He got the first two men he faced out but then allowed five consecutive batters to reach. Chris Serrano came on to get the last man out with a K.

In game two, Jon Trowt had to pitch with a thinner margin as the score was 1-1 through five innings. Gordon took the lead early in this one as Hayes Murray scored a run in the second. He had a lead off double and went to third on a single by Brian Ross. Murray then scored an errant pick off attempt on Ross at first base.

Endicott tried to tie it in the fourth, but Jason Newham's potential tying run was thrown out at home plate on a F9-2 double play. Newham singled and stole second and went to third on Matt Bishop's ground ball to short. With one out, Brendan Tiani hit a fly ball to right but it was not quite deep enough as Newham was out trying to tag.

Kevin Donahue tripled to start the fifth and Pat Vincent got him home with a sac-fly to center to tie the score 1-1. In the meantime, Trowt was not allowing Gordon to get anything started. Six of his nine strike outs came in the middle innings: 3,4, 5 &6.

EC provided Trowt with the winning margin in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Gary Palmieri got his second pinch-hit of the day: a double to left. Ryan Seward ran for him and went to third on Tiani's ground out. Kevin Donahue hit a check-swing roller to first that was mishandled allowing the winning run to score. Donahue then went to second on a wild pitch and Mark Vaughan promptly singled him in for some insurance.

Trowt hit the first batter of the seventh, but then put down the next three straight to earn his first win of the year. The wins improve EC to 18-16, 12-6 in the CCC.
