Box Score

(Beverly, MA) The Brandeis Judges used base-running, timely hitting and Endicott miscues to put up a win against the Gulls at home today. After Brandeis opened a 5-2 lead, Endicott cut it to 5-4 after 7 full innings. But the Judges stretched the lead in last two frames to seal the victory.

Kevin Donahue gave Endicott and early 1-0 lead in the second when his sacrifice fly plated Greg Allain. Brandeis went up 2-1 on EC starter, Jason Carter, in the third on three hits and two stolen bases. Jeff Bourdon led off the fourth with a home run for Brandeis. The visitors chased Carter in the fifth and made it 5-2 with 2 more run in the frame off three hits and two EC fielding errors.

Endicott picked up two in the sixth to make it interesting. With two outs Allain singled and Matt Bishop doubled. Peter Norke walked to load the bases. Donahue got his second RBI of the day with a sharp single to right. The ball was hit too hard to score Bishop from second, however, a wild pitch to the next hitter, Brendan Tiani, scored Bishop.

After a scoreless seventh, Brandeis exerted more pressure on the Gulls in the eighth. Reliever Jason Newham allowed a lead off single. A potential double-play ball was mishandled, leaving runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs. Endicott's defense anticipated the bunt and charging firstbaseman, Greg Allain, got the lead runner at third for the first out. Newham got two quick strikes on the next hitter and looked as though he might pitch out of it. It was not to be however, as Mark Simolaris, hit a tough 0-2 pitch into center field for an RBI and the beginning of a three-run inning. Ian Parkinson relieved Newham and pitched the final inning and 2/3's and allowed one run in the ninth.

Endicott managed only one base runner in the 8th and 9th combined leaving the final at 9-4.

The non-conference loss puts EC back at .500 (16-16) as they look to improve their CCC record tomorrow against Gordon in a 2:00pm double header at Endicott.
