BEVERLY, Mass. – Junior midfielder \#Karyn Plante\# (Sanford, Maine) took a feed from freshman \#Christine Silva\# (Stoneham, Mass.) and beat Nichols’ goalkeeper Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) in the 76th minute to help the Gulls down the Bison, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. Endicott has now won back-to-back 1-0 games, improving to 7-4 overall (5-1 TCCC). Nichols slips to 4-7 and 1-5 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Endicott, who held a decisive 11-1 advantage in shots in the opening half, had the best scoring chance of the first frame when senior \#Caitlin Flynn\# (Southold, N.Y.) was awarded a penalty shot in the 38th minute. Flynn, who has scored in each of Endicott’s last five games, was stonewalled on a diving save by Johnson to keep it a scoreless game.
The Bison had a quality chance with 2:15 remaining in the first half when a crossing feed was redirected on a header attempt by Kate Dyson (Danielson, Conn.), however Endicott goalkeeper \#Elise Berry\# (Londonderry, N.H.) was more than equal to the task as she made a diving save to send each team into the intermission gridlocked at 0-0.
The Gulls were able to bury the game-winner in the 76th minute when a free-kick sprung a two-on-one opportunity with \#Christine Silva\# and \#Karyn Plante\# racing ahead of the pack. Silva lofted a pass over the Bison defender to Plante, who found the back of the net with a shot from eight feet out.
Endicott outshot Nichols 20-5 on the afternoon and held a 5-2 advantage in corners. Nichols’ Nicole Johnson made nine saves in the losing effort, while graduate student \#Amy Meuse\# (Saugus, Mass.) earned the win in her first action of the season after taking over for Berry in the second half.
The Gulls look for their third win in as many tries on Wednesday when the Blue and Green travel to Salve Regina for a 4:00 p.m. match-up with the Seahawks. Nichols gets back to work on the same day against Roger Williams.
