The Endicott College women’s soccer team has been selected as the top team in the TCCC according to the 2009 TCCC Preseason Poll released by the TCCC offices on Wednesday morning. The Gulls will begin their pursuit of the program’s seventh straight NCAA appearance when they open play against Babson College on September 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Beverly, Mass.
The Gulls return the top scoring offense in the TCCC from a year ago including 2008 TCCC Player of the Year Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.) who was third in the TCCC in goals (16) while leading the conference with 40 points. Endicott’s Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.), a 2008 TCCC Honorable Mention honoree, also returns for her sophomore campaign as she joined Flynn as a top-10 scorer in the TCCC with 14 goals in 2008, good for sixth in the conference.
Endicott College (16-3-3, 12-0-1 TCCC) received 9 of the 14 first-place votes in the 2009 TCCC preseason poll. Defending champion Roger Williams University was picked to finish second receiving the remaining five first-place votes. The University of New England and Gordon College were picked to finish third and fourth respectively.
Teams received 14 points for every first place vote received, 13 points for second place votes, 12 points for third place votes, down to one point for a last place vote. Voting for the preseason poll was conducted among the league’s head women’s soccer coaches.
