Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. – Reigning TCCC Player of the Year Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.) broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute as Endicott College edged North Shore rival Salem State, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon in women’s soccer action in Beverly, Mass. The win improves the Gulls to 3-3 overall (1-0 TCCC), while Salem State slips to 3-2.

Endicott had the best chance of the opening half as freshman \#Christine Silva\# (Stoneham, Mass.) collected a bouncing ball in the box and sent a shot to the right of sprawling goalkeeper Lindsey Burke (Harvard, Mass.). The shot, however, narrowly missed its mark and struck the right post to keep the game a scoreless tie. Endicott held a 7-2 shots advantage in the first half, forcing Salem State’s Burke to make four saves in the opening 45:00 minutes of action.

It appeared the Gulls finally got on the board in the 56th minute as \#Kayla Corbett\# (Danvers, Mass.) sprung \#Caitlin Flynn\# with a one-touch pass that Flynn buried into the back of the Vikings’ goal. The far side linesman put an abrupt end to the Gulls’ celebration, as he whistled the Blue and Green for an offside infraction.

Flynn would not be held scoreless for much longer as the senior made good on one of her game-high six shot attempts, this time squeezing a bid past Burke in the 61st minute for the 1-0 lead. Flynn used a nice hesitation on the left side and sent a shot sailing for the upper-right corner. The ball deflected off the hands of the Salem State goalkeeper and caromed into the goal.

Lindsey Burke redeemed herself just three minutes later, as the sophomore goalkeeper made a diving save to her left off a \#Cheyenne Harris\# (Bernardsville, N.J.) blast to keep it a one-goal game.

Salem State had a chance to knot the game at 1-all in the 82nd minute as Lauren Kilduff (Walpole, Mass.) took a cross from Erin OBrien (Hanson, Mass.) and uncorked a shot from 10-yards out that sailed just over the crossbar. The scoring chance would be the last opportunity for the Vikings, as Endicott held off Salem State for the 1-0 victory.

The Gulls outshot SSC at a 13-5 clip. Lindsey Burke made eight saves in the losing effort, while sophomore \#Elise Berry\# (Londonderry, N.H.) was called upon to make just one save for her second-straight shutout.

Salem State looks to rebound on Saturday afternoon as the Vikings take on Mass. Maritime at 12:00 p.m. Endicott, winners of three in a row, get back into Conference play with Western New England College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Beverly, Mass.
