Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College got second half goals from sophomore Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) and senior Caitlin Flynn (Southold, N.Y.), as the Gulls downed Western New England College, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in TCCC women’s soccer action in Beverly, Mass. The Gulls improve to 4-3 overall and stay unbeaten in league play (2-0), while WNEC falls to 1-5 and 0-2 in TCCC competition.

A slow moving first half saw each goalkeeper make two saves apiece, as Endicott’s \#Elise Berry\# (Londonderry, N.H.) and Western New England’s Jessica Covino (Bristol, Conn.) kept the nets empty for the opening 45:00 minutes of play. The Gulls outshot the Golden Bears 5-3 in the opening half, and were awarded two corner kicks to WNEC’s one.

The Gulls finally broke through in the 59th minute as sophomore \#Colleen Pepin\# headed a free-kick from 35 yards out by \#Caitlin Peters\# (Salem, N.H.) and beat Covino to make it 1-0 Endicott. The Gulls were on the verge of making it a two goal game in the 82nd minute when freshman \#Christine Silva\# (Stoneham, Mass.) took a shot from nine yards out aimed for under the crossbar. Covino came off her line and made a leaping save to keep it 1-0.

The Gulls got the insurance goal they were looking for in the 89th minute as \#Caitlin Flynn\# notched an unassisted marker to seal the win. Flynn beat a defender at the top of the box and planted a well-placed shot in the top-right corner of the WNEC goal to secure the victory.

Endicott held Western New England to just one shot in the second half, as the Gulls held a 10-4 edge on the afternoon. \#Elise Berry\# notched her third win of the season, all of which have been shutout victories. Jessica Covino took the loss with a five save effort.

The Golden Bears look to snap their current four-game skid when they host Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Gulls, who in contrast have won four-in-a-row, get back to work on Tuesday with cross town rival Gordon College at 7:00 p.m.
