BIDDEFORD, ME - Kellie Lajoie (York, ME/York) and Caitlin Flynn (Southold, NY/Mattituck) scored two goals apiece as four-time defending conference champion Endicott College cruised to a 6-1 win over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer play Wednesday evening.
The Gulls, who had lost two of their previous three matches, improve to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in league play. UNE falls to 3-7 and dips below the .500 mark (3-4) in TCCC play.
The Blue and Green jump on the Nor'easters from the outset, scoring twice in the opening six minutes. Lajoie and Flynn each had the first of their two goals on the evening.
Lajoie made the score 3-0 in favor of Endicott with an unassisted tally in the 22nd minute. The second-year defender now has five goals on the season, the second-highest output for the Gulls.
UNE responded just a minute later when Michelle Epstein (Medway, MA/Medway) knocked home her team-leading third goal to cut into the deficit.
Flynn notched her team-best seventh goal of the season to open Endicott's scoring in the second half. Twin sisters Kayla and Karyn Plante (Sanford, ME/Sanford) completed EC's scoring and make the final, 6-1. Lajoie was credited with a pair of assists in the second half to complete a six-point evening.
Goalkeeper Amy Meuse (Saugus, MA/Saugus) made three saves for the Gulls, who host Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday at noon.
For UNE, which faces Roger Williams University (12:30 p.m.) Saturday in Biddeford, Leigh Engel (Richmondville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) and Beth Ehmann (Ludlow, VT/Black River) combined to make seven stops.
