Gulls Prepare for 2007

Oct. 23, 2006

Beverly, MA - Senior Meaghan Mathers (Northampton, MA) and junior Emily Judd (Peabody, MA) have been selected as captains for the Gulls in their 2007 campaign to recapture the CCC Championship. Both Mathers and Judd played key roles in the Gulls 2006 season that finished 17-3 overall, and hosted the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

Mathers is one of two current four-year players on the Gulls' roster. She has started every game for the Gulls over three seasons as a defender. One of the Gulls most aware players, she has the ability to communicate effectively with the defensive unit and frequently creates a turnover gaining possession back for her teammates.

As a sophomore, Judd was named CCC Defender of the Year. She is skilled at any defensive position, and has played in the midfield for the Gulls as well. She led the team in ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls last season. In addition, she has the ability to bring the ball into the attacking end and create scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. She will be an important component of the Gulls midfield as they begin their 2007 season this spring.

The Gulls will have another young squad this season, with many new freshmen players joining the large sophomore class ahead of them. They had a successful fall, and will take the field against their first opponent, Goucher College, on February 25 away in Baltimore, Maryland.
