BEVERLY, MA - Roger Williams put home three second half goals but could not complete the comeback as the Endicott College stood tall and won its sixth straight contest, 6-5, Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
The Gulls (6-1, 2-0 CCC) peppered Hawks' goaltender Dana Staats, who finished with 20 stops, with 22 shots in the first half and took a 4-2 lead at intermission. But Roger Williams (2-3, 0-1 CCC) battled back and got to within a goal on tallies by Megan Ficociello, Libby Stout and Meghan Logan.
With Endicott clinging to a 5-4 advantage, freshman Sara Gunter Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) scored on a free position, pushing the margin to two goals with 18:14 remaining. Logan's tally made it 6-5 but Gulls' junior goaltender Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH/Gould Academy) and the Gulls defense held RWU scoreless for the final 13:32.
Curry finished with six stops while sophomore Emily Judd (Peabody, MA/Peabody), who has caused 17 turnovers in the last two games, caused a game-high nine turnovers. Freshman Katie Leighton (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) played solid defensively as well.
Senior Cathy Sharp (Rutland, VT/Rutland) recorded a hat trick for Endicott and Gunter ended the day with two goals. The duo has been leading the Gulls all season. Sharp is leading the team with 24 goals while Gunter is second with 14 tallies.
