BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College moved on to the semifinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a 16-6 opening round win over Salve Regina University Tuesday afternoon at Endicott College.
The second-seeded Gulls (15-2) scored nine first-half goals en-route to the victory over the No. 7 Seahawks, who wrapped up their season at 7-10.
In other CCC action, the University of New England, seeded eighth, knocked off top-seeded Colby-Sawyer, 13-9. The Gulls will host No. 6 Roger Williams, which upset No. 3 New England College.
Shiori Tachiwana (Kanagawa, Japan/Sakae Institute) put home four goals for Endicott while Alex Pearce (Underhill, VT/Kimball Union Academy) recorded a hat trick and Cathy Sharp (Rutland, VT/Rutland) and Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk) each scored twice.
The Gulls also got single goals from Susie Neikirk (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville), Molly Moss (Yarmouth, ME/North Yarmouth Academy), Samantha Morin (Kennebunk, ME/Kennebunk), Emily Judd (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and Eleanor Whitcomb (Lyme, NH/Northfield Mt. Hermon).
After Salve tied the game at 1-1 less than 10 minutes into the game, Endicott rattled off eight straight goals and took a 9-2 cushion into intermission.
Nicole Fecteau (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) and Cara Dunn (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) each netted two goals in the loss for Salve.
Junior goaltender Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH/Gould Academy) turned away 15 shots for the Gulls, who also got four saves from Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, ME/Greely).
Endicott hosts Roger Williams Thursday night at 7:00 PM in the CCC Semifinals.
