Softball Sweeps Wentworth In Critical CCC Matchup On Senior Day

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team swept Wentworth, 1-0 and 3-1, in conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to game one, Chrissy Marotto (Southington, Conn.), Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.), Emma DaSilva (Bristol, R.I.), Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.), Morgan Peryer (West Haven, Conn.), Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.), and Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) were all honored for their contributions to the program and the Endicott College community in a Senior Day ceremony.

GAME ONE: Endicott 1, Wentworth 0

WP (10-3): Hanchuk — 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
LP (11-7): Erin Hancock (Holden, Mass.) — 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K

Endicott scratched across the game's lone run in the third as Misiaszek plated Watts from third base on a grounder to second.

Wentworth did put the game-tying run at second base in the sixth and seventh innings, but Hanchuk was up to the task each time.

The win for Hanchuk was the 36th of her career (sixth all-time).

GAME TWO: Endicott 3, Wentworth 1

WP (12-3): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
LP (12-2): Julie Schriver (Moscow, Pa.) — 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

The Gulls' three-run third inning was more than enough for Couto in game two.

DaSilva got the offense going with a two-run triple to center field, while Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.) capped the scoring with a hard-hit single to left.

After Couto retired the first nine batters she faced in order, the Leopards threatened in the fourth (1st/3rd, 2 outs) and fifth (2nd/3rd, 1 out) innings but did not come away with a run until Julia Bulletin (South Kingstown, R.I.) lifted a solo homer to left in the sixth.

Couto never wavered though as the junior righty recorded two straights after the homer to end the sixth and stranded runners at first and second to lock up the sweep.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Lindsay Joubert (Haverhill, Mass.) made a spectacular diving catch on a sinking liner in the bottom of the seventh with one out to take away at minimum a first/second situation with the top of the order for Wentworth coming up.
  • The Gulls are 46-0-1 all-time against Wentworth.
  • Both teams entered today's doubleheader ranked in the top-3 in the league standings.
