SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split a pair of games (4-6, 7-5) against Western New England in conference action on Friday evening at Golden Bear Park.
GAME ONE: Western New England 6, Endicott 4
WP (5-3): Megan Beebe (Ellington, Conn.) — 7 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
LP (4-3): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn) — 5 1/3 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
The Golden Bears scored two runs in innings 4-5-6 to rally to the game one win.
Endicott jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning via an RBI single from Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) and a two-run single by Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.).
Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) also added a sacrifice fly in the seventh to make it 6-4 before Beebe recorded the final out with a strikeout looking to squash a comeback bid from the Gulls.
GAME TWO: Endicott 7, Western New England 5
WP (4-2): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 7 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
LP (0-1): Emilia Garcia (Fair Lawn, N.J.) — 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Tied 5-5 in the sixth inning, Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) gave the Gulls the lead for good with an RBI single up the middle.
Emma DaSilva (Bristol, R.I.) added an all-important insurance run in the seventh via an RBI double before Couto locked in the split against the Golden Bears with a 1-2-3 bottom half.
Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.) belted a solo homer and finished with two RBI in the contest, while Lindsay Joubert (Haverhill, Mass.) launched a two-run homer in the second to give Endicott a 3-0 lead at the time.
Shapleigh rounded out the offense with a sacrifice fly in the fifth (5-2 advantage).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- Joubert hit her first collegiate homer.
- Comtois belted her 15th career homer.
- The Gulls are 32-14 all-time against Western New England.
