WALTHAM, Mass. — The Endicott softball split a pair of games against Brandeis (2-1, 0-1) in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Marcus Field.
GAME ONE: Endicott 2, Brandeis 1
WP (5-3): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) — 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
LP (8-4): Ragini Kanaan (Westford, Mass.) — 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K
Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) broke open the scoreless contest with two outs in the sixth inning on an RBI single to deep right center.
Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) exhibited some superior baserunning on the play by scoring all the way from first base with no advantage coming from a stolen base attempt. She also kept the inning alive with a single to center prior to Shapleigh's at-bat.
In the seventh, Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) provided an all-important insurance run for the Gulls with a solo homer to left field (second career).
Endicott then walked off with the win in the bottom half of the frame as left fielder Lindsay Joubert (Haverhill, Mass.) gunned down the game-tying run at the plate as Brandeis attempted to score two runs on a bases loaded single.
GAME TWO: Brandeis 1, Endicott 0
WP (4-4): Alex Cohen (West Palm Beach, Fla.) — 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 SO
LP (5-3): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
A solo homer for the Judges in the second inning was the difference as the Gulls only had one baserunner reach scoring position (seventh, two outs) in the contest.
Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.) highlighted the offense with a pair of singles.
