Historic Shooting Night Lifts Salve Regina Past Men’s Basketball, 98-89

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Salve Regina men's basketball team posted program-best shooting percentages from the field and beyond the arc to defeat Endicott, 98-89, on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

The Seahawks went 32-for-48 from the floor (66.7%) to tie their all-time best mark, which was set earlier this season in a win against Dean (99-68, 12/1/19), and shot 10-for-12 from long distance (83.3%) to break a more than 10-year old record (.688, 11-for-16, 1/15/07) in the win.

As for the Gulls, Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.) paced the squad with 30 points (9-18 FG, 7-13 3PT, 5-6 FT), four rebounds, two assists, a pair of steals, and a block.

Endicott also saw Mathew Catizone (Woburn, Mass.) notch a career-high 20 points (7-11 FG, 6-10 3 PT) in 22 minutes off the bench, while Matt McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) contributed 14 points and six boards in the loss.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Despite the loss, Endicott still leads the all-time series against Salve Regina, 25-16.
  • The Seahawks ended their three-game losing streak versus the Gulls tonight.
  • Salve Regina shot a season-high 70.4-percent from the field (19-for-27) in the first half.
  • Tonight's game did not feature any ties and only two lead changes.
  • Salve Regina outscored Endicott in the paint 40-26.
  • The Seahawks led for 38:47 in the matchup.
  • Catizone's six three-pointers are a new career-high.
  • Endicott trailed by as many as 16 points three times in the contest (1st half, 2:37, 43-27 | 2nd half, 19:15, 48-32 | 2nd half, 17:01, 52-36).
  • The Gulls brought the game within four points on two separate occasions late in the second half (74-70, 5:48 | 76-72, 5:06), but Salve Regina answered each time with a bucket of its own in both instances to hold off each comeback attempt.

Endicott (16-7, 10-4) travels to Wentworth on Saturday, February 15 at 3 PM. Salve Regina (9-13, 5-8 CCC) welcomes Gordon to its campus this Saturday at 3 PM.
