BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott freshman guard Jalen Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office earlier today.
Last week for the Gulls, Echevarria helped Endicott climb to the top of the conference standings with a pair of league wins over Wentworth and Western New England (WNE). The first-year Gull averaged 22.5 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 75 percent (18-for-24) from the field.
Echevarria was as consistent as can be in the two games, shooting 9-for-12 (75 percent) from the field in both contests, while also dishing out four assists. The difference came in his rebounding as he gathered in five boards against WNE after only securing two against the Leopards. He also had two steals against Wentworth.
Today's announcement mark's Echevarria's first career CCC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor and his conference-leading fourth CCC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week award. Additionally, Echeverria is the only men's basketball student-athlete in the CCC to claim both honors in the same week.
