BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s tennis
team continued their record-setting 2011 season with another win on
Wednesday, beating non-conference opponent Plymouth State 9-0 to
improve to 10-0 on the season.
Plymouth State dropped to 6-4 overall with the loss after winning
back-to-back Little East matches over the weekend.
The Gulls swept through doubles play behind an 8-3 win at \#1
doubles by seniors Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and Emily Annis
(Hampton, N.H.), an 8-4 victory by senior Laura MacLeod (Mashpee,
Mass.) and freshman Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) at \#2 doubles
and an 8-0 shutout at the \#3 doubles spot by freshman Amy Heacox
(Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston,
Maine).
Endicott continued their strong play in the singles portion of the
match with Cioffi, Cloutier, Heacox, Annis and Egbert all recording
straight set victories over their Panther opponents.
In the \#6 singles spot, junior Rachel Fenstermaker (Somerset,
Mass.) edged her Plymouth State opponent, sophomore Ashley Hanlon
(Norwell, Mass.) in the first set 7-6 (7-0 tiebreaker), then
followed with a 6-1 second set win to take the point.
With their 10th win of the season, Endicott returns to
the double-digit plateau for the first time since the 2009 season
when the Blue and Green went 14-4 overall.
Endicott will host Gordon in CCC action tomorrow at 3:30 pm while
Plymouth State travels to Worcester State on Saturday, October
8th for a 1:00 pm LEC match. That match will be
played at Assumption.
