Kate Cioffi named a Capital One Academic All-District First Team honoree

2011-12 Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large Teams

BEVERLY, Mass. – 
Endicott senior women's tennis star Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) was one of just 11 student-athletes from Distrct I to be selected to the Capital one Academic All-District Women's At-Large First Team, making her eligible for Academic All-America status which will be announced on Tuesday, June 5th
 
The Women's At-Large program allows for nominations to be accepted on student-athletes who have achieved a 3.30 GPA or better, is of sophomore standing or above, has completed at least one year at her institution and participated in at least 50 percent of her team's games.  Sports eligible in the Women's At-Large program include bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.
 
The award is nominated by and voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and has been recognizing thousands of deserving student-athletes since the program's inception in the 1950's. 
 
Cioffi becomes the first ever Gulls women's tennis player to earn Capital One Academic All-District honors and joins Colleen Pepin (women's soccer), Gregory Capece (men's soccer), Mike Lane (football), Mike Zupkosky (football), and Greg Szkop (men's lacrosse) as award winners from the 2011-12 academic year.
 
In a season in which the women's tennis program captured their second CCC Championship with a 5-3 victory over Nichols last October, Cioffi shined with a 12-3 record at the #1 singles and a 6-6 record with Emily Annis at the #1 doubles.  Cioffi led the Gulls into the NCAA Division III Tournament where they faced Elizabethtown in the First Round.  The senior, along with Annis, helped the Blue and Green take an early 2-1 lead after doubles play with an 8-6 victory. 
 
Cioffi wraps up her athletic career as one of the winningest women's tennis players in Endicott history.  She is a four-time All-CCC Singles and Doubles player and has been named CCC Player and Rookie of the Week on numerous occasions. 
 
Academically, Cioffi boasts a 3.93 GPA as a Sport Management major with several accolades including CCC Academic All-Conference, Endicott Academic Varsity Club, Dean's List, and most recently, a Senior Academic Award Recipient from the School of Sport Science and Fitness Studies. 
 
Off the field, she has involved herself with Relay for Life, the Big Sister/Little Sister Program, Boston Student-Athletes, American Red Cross, the Blumshapiro 5K, EC Scholars, EC 101 Peer Leader, Peer Tutoring, and community service projects with local elementary schools and coaching clinics.  She has completed internships with the PGA Tour Travelers Championship, the Vermont Frost Heaves, a semi-professional basketball team, as well as TopNotch Resort and Spa.
