Gulls rally for 5-4 win to remain unbeaten at 8-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – After dropping two of three doubles matches, the Endicott women’s tennis team came from behind to defeat GNAC foe Emerson 5-4 to improve to 8-0 on the season.  Emerson dropped to 2-4 following the loss. 

The Gulls rallied behind their \#3 through \#6 singles players, who all won in straight sets over their Emerson opponents. 

Freshman Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) won 6-0, 6-3 in \#3 singles and was a part of Endicott’s only victory in doubles play, an 8-2 triumph at \#3 doubles with partner sophomore Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine). 

Gulls senior captain Emily Annis (Hampton, N.H.) staved off Lions freshmen Jana Winfield (Andover, Mass.) with a 6-2, 6-4 win at \#4 singles.  Freshman Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) and junior Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) each won in straights sets at the \#5 and \#6 singles spots to help Endicott take four out of six matches and the 5-4 overall team win. 

At the beginning of the match in doubles play, the Lions impressed at both the \#1 and \#2 doubles positions winning 8-3 and 8-0, respectively.  The duo of sophomore Savannah Mosser (Malibu, Calif.) and sophomore Lacey Russell (Roswell, Ga.) took the \#1 doubles match while freshmen Natalie Nicholas (Syosset, N.Y.) and sophomore Alicia Pellegrin (San Antonio, Texas) teamed up for the \#2 doubles victory. 

Endicott next plays host to CCC opponent Curry on Saturday, October 1st at 1:00 pm on the South Campus Courts.  Emerson travels to GNAC rival Albertus Magnus on Sunday, October 2nd for a 2:00 pm match.
