Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. –
The Endicott women’s tennis team defeated the same team that ended their 2010 season, Colby-Sawyer College, by a score of 8-1 in their season and home opener on the South Campus Courts Thursday afternoon.

The Gulls swept all six singles matches and won two out of three doubles contests to take the win.  Freshmen Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) each took down victories in both singles and doubles play to lead the Blue and Green.  In \#3 singles, Heacox defeated Siobhan Masse (Southbridge, Mass.) 6-2, 6-4 and teamed up with \#3 doubles partner sophomore Emily Marcello (Greenwood, Ind.) to shutout their opponents 8-0.

Egbert, a 6-0, 6-1 victor in \#5 singles over her Chargers opponent Kathleen Rogers (Falls Village, Conn.), also won in \#2 doubles with senior captain Laura MacLeod (Mashpee, Mass.) 8-2 over Masse and Rogers.

Endicott’s other two senior captains, Kate Cioffi (Essex, Vt.) and Emily Annis (Hampton, N.H.), each won their singles matches in straight sets.  Cioffi won 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles position while Annis beat her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at \#4 singles.  Both players, however, could not triumph in \#1 doubles as Colby-Sawyer’s duo of sophomore Liz Lincoln (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Claire Toffey (Barnstable, Mass.) won a tiebreaker 7-4 and handed the Gulls a 9-8 defeat.

Endicott sophomore Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, Maine) won 6-1, 6-2 in \#2 singles and junior Gina Pinciaro (Beverly, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with a 6-0, 6-0 win at \#6 singles.

Endicott hosts their second match of the season on Saturday, September 3rd at 11:00 am against Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Salve Regina.  Colby-Sawyer travels to Babson College on Sunday, September 4th for two matches against Nichols and the host Beavers.
