Beverly, MA--In the first round of Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs, the Endicott women's soccer team defeated 8th seed Roger Williams University by a score of 6-2.
Leading the Endicott attack was midfielder Stacey Lubas, who scored three goals and assisted on another. Twelve minutes into the first half, freshman forward Caitlin D'Amario hit cross bar, and collecting the rebound was midfielder Stacey Lubas, scoring her first goal of the game. A little under two minutes later, D'Amario would assist Lubas' second goal, and give EC the 2-0 advantage.
Cutting the lead in half was Roger Williams forward Emily Seelig in the 15th minute of play. EC would score one more goal before half in the 18th minute mark. Receiving a ball from Jillian Zagura, Leah Walters tacked on another talley for the Gulls.
The score remained the same until the 82nd minute when Katrina Perkins found Lubas in the box, scoring her third goal of the game, and giving EC the 4-1 lead. Scoring the 5th goal for the Gulls was Zagura, who found the back of the net in the 88th minute. With less than two minutes remaining in the game, midfielder Amy Stevens sent a corner kick into the box, and heading the ball into the net was defender Staci Wiencko. Scoring with seconds left, Roger Williams added another goal, capping the score at 6-2.
With the victory, the Gulls advance to the semifinal round. As the number one seed, EC will host the winner of the Salve Regina/Gordon game. The 2nd round game is on Wednesday, November 1st, time is TBA.
