Couto And Shapleigh Earn All-Region Honors

NFCA ALL-REGION RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. — Two members of the Endicott softball team have earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFC) All-Region honors.

Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) and Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) were both named to the Division III Region II Second Team.

Couto and Shapleigh are now eligible for NFCA All-America honors, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 31.

As a program, the Gulls have earned 73 All-Region honors, including 64 from the NFCA since 2002.

Couto registered a 11-7 record, one save, and a 2.38 earned run average (ERA) in 19 appearances (17 starts, 10 complete games) over 100 innings in the circle for the Gulls.

She yielded 92 hits, 45 runs (34 earned), and 20 walks alongside 102 strikeouts (7.14 K/7).

Couto picked up marquee wins against St. Lawrence (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R (0 ER), 2 BB, and 8 Ks), MIT (5/1), and Roger Williams (7 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K). The senior also set a new career high in strikeouts against Curry on 3/30 with 14.

This is her third career All-Region award and third postseason honor this season (CCC Pitcher of the Year, All-CCC First Team).

CCC RANKS: Wins (5th), ERA (7th), complete games (3rd), strikeouts (3rd), batting average against (7th), shutouts (3rd), and batting average against (7th)


CHLOE SHAPLEIGH | JR. | 1B

In 34 games played, Shapleigh produced a .343/.425/.676 slash line accompanied by 23 runs, 35 hits — 10 doubles, eight homers — 14 walks, 28 RBIs, and two stolen bases.

The junior led the Gulls in doubles, home runs, RBIs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and extra base hits. As of 5/20, Shapleigh ranks 61st in the NCAA in home runs.

She tallied 10 multi-hit games (2 — 8 | 3 — 2) and had eight games with multiple RBIs (2 — 4 | 3 — 1 | 4 — 3).

This is Shapleigh's second career All-Region award and second postseason honor this spring (All-CCC First Team).

CCC RANKS: Batting average (17th), on-base percentage (3rd), runs (21st), doubles (15th), home runs (2nd), RBI (8th), total bases (9th, 69), walks (14th), and slugging percentage (2nd)


YEAR IN REVIEW

Endicott finished the season with a 24-14 overall record and a 13-3 conference record. The Gulls fell in the CCC Tournament.
