Softball Splits With Wentworth On Sunday

BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split a pair of conference games with Wentworth on Sunday evening at Carr Diamond. The Gulls took game one, 4-3, in eight innings, but fell in the nightcap, 3-2.

GAME ONE: Endicott 4, Wentworth 3 (8 inn.)

WP (4-1): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 8 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K
LP (7-7): Julie Schriver (Moscow, Pa.) — 8 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 9 K

Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) ripped an RBI triple to right center in the eighth inning to lift the Gulls over Wentworth in the opener.

Prior to the eighth, Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.) came up clutch in the sixth with an RBI infield single to make it a 3-3 game, at the time, and eventually force extras.

Endicott raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the contest as Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) notched an RBI single in the first and Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) belted a solo shot in the third.

GAME TWO: Wentworth 3, Endicott 2

WP (4-4): Jess Rowe (Yardley, Pa.) — 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 BB, 4 K
LP (3-2): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

An RBI infield single in the bottom of the fourth spelled the difference for the Gulls in game two.

Trailing 2-0 after the second, Romero cut into Endicott's deficit with a sacrifice fly to center field in the third to make it a 2-1 matchup.

Julianna Roche (North Andover, Mass.) followed with an RBI knock in the fourth to even the score up at two-all.

Wentworth immediately answered in the bottom half and then proceeded to strand three runners in scoring position the rest of the way to earn the split.
