BEVERLY, Mass. — The first-seeded Endicott softball team lost to fourth-seeded Wentworth, 5-2, on the opening day of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament.
WP (13-11): Julie Schriver (Moscow, Pa.) — 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
LP (10-6): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 5.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Wentworth struck for three runs in the first and two more in the fifth to support Schriver's gem.
Kyla Igawa (Long Beach, Calif.) highlighted the Leopards offensively with a two-run insurance blast down the left field line in the fifth.
Schriver was able to work out of two jams in the first (1st/2nd, 2 outs) and second (2nd/3rd, 2 outs) before yielding a pair of runs in the sixth (one earned).
Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) scored the first Gulls' run on a throwing error, while Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) singled home Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) later in the frame.
Nowicki finished the contest 2-for-2 (single/double) with a run scored and a walk.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Wentworth is 2-1 against Endicott this season.
- Schriver is 1-1 in those contests.
- The Leopards improved to 9-6 on the road.
WHAT'S NEXT
First-seeded Endicott (24-13) will host third-seeded Nichols tomorrow at approximately 12 PM. Fourth-seeded Wentworth (25-17) takes on second-seeded Western New England tomorrow at approximately 4 PM (hosted at Endicott).
