Softball Splits With Suffolk On Senior Day

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split a pair of conference games against Suffolk, (L, 4-2 | W, 9-1, 6 inn.) on Saturday evening.

Prior to the game, Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.), Abigail Gilbert (Millbury, Mass.), Lindsay Joubert (Haverhill, Mass.), and Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) were all honored for their contributions to the program and the College as part of a Senior Day ceremony.  


GAME ONE: Suffolk 4, Endicott 2

WP (9-5): Lily Newhall (Lynn, Mass.) — 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
LP (9-5): Couto — 7 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 8 K

Suffolk ambushed the Gulls for three runs in the first and let Newhall take care of the rest to secure the victory in the opener.

Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) had a sac fly in the first, while Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) drove home a run on a groundout in the seventh to account for Endicott's scoring.


GAME TWO: Endicott 9, Suffolk 1 (6 inn.)

WP (1-0): Gilbert — 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
LP (6-10): Cynthia Rucinski (Milltown, N.J.) — 3 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

The Gulls' offense exploded for nine runs on 12 hits (7 XBH) to earn a split with Suffolk.

In the second inning, Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.) got Endicott going with an RBI single to left field before Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) mashed a two-run double to center for a 3-0 lead.

Nowicki made it 4-0 in the third with a triple, while Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) extended the advantage to 5-0 via a sacrifice fly to center.

In the fourth, Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch after hitting a leadoff triple and Saccoccio belted a two-run homer to put the Gulls up eight.

Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.) walked it off for Endicott in the sixth on an RBI single through the left side.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Endicott is 9-3 all-time against Suffolk.
  • Nowicki had one double and two triples (tied third most all-time for a single game) in the nightcap.
  • Gilbert earned her third career win.
  • Saccoccio hit her first collegiate homer.

Endicott (21-10, 12-2 CCC) welcomes Brandeis to campus on Tuesday, April 30 for a single game at 4 PM. Suffolk (16-20, 6-8 CCC) hosts Wentworth tomorrow at 12/2 PM.
